Every single day, life throws challenges at us to see how strong we are and if we can
keep going. Whether it’s a tiny bug or a huge elephant, every living thing can adapt, survive, and keep living, no matter how tough things get. You can see this toughness in action everywhere in the animal kingdom. Their lives are all about surviving and staying alive.
But being tough isn’t the only thing that matters. Just like plants need sunlight to grow, animals also need love and care to thrive. Love and care have amazing power. They can turn tough situations into hopeful ones. Love and care can heal wounds, mend broken spirits, and bring happiness to even the saddest hearts.

Hope for paws…
Hope For Paws is a rescue group in Los Angeles that helps dogs in need. They’ve saved
lots of dogs since they began their amazing work in 2008. Eldad and Audrey, two brave helpers, play a big role in their missions. Without them, many dogs would struggle and still be homeless.
Kisses the Canine…
Kisses was one of those dogs. She was an older dog who lived near a trash bin by a fastfood place. She thought it was a good spot because she could find food there. But it wasn’t a good place for her, especially since she was older. She didn’t know there was a better life out there, but Hope For Paws did.
Calling for help…
When JoAnn and Alex from Hope For Paws got an email about a dog living near a dumpster in downtown Los Angeles, they hurried to help. They arrived just as a garbage truck was coming to empty the dumpsters. When Kisses heard the noise of the garbage truck, she got scared and ran into the shed to hide. JoAnn and Alex had to act fast because of the situation. They needed to get her out quickly so the workers could empty the dumpster. If Kisses didn’t come out soon, she could have gotten hurt.

Luckily, JoAnn got into the shed and found Kisses hiding in a corner. Kisses was scared, but she seemed happy to see JoAnn. JoAnn gave her some treats to make friends with her, and it worked. Kisses started wagging her tail and trying the new food. She was thrilled to eat something other than scraps from fast food.
Leaving Dumpster…
After feeling JoAnn’s kindness, Kisses quickly took food from her hand. In just a few minutes, JoAnn put a leash on Kisses. But then the workers started moving the dumpsters, scaring Kisses. She ran and hid behind another dumpster, but she still had the leash on.
Alex and JoAnn got Kisses to follow them, and she was finally ready to leave the dumpster. The best part was when they got to their car. Kisses rolled onto her back, asking for belly rubs. She even gave JoAnn a little kiss. And that’s how she started her new life, with a sweet kiss that gave her name.

Kisses’s new home…
The girls took Kisses to her new home, the shelter. At first, she was a bit scared because
everything was new to her. But her tail wagged all the time, showing how sweet she was.
Everyone could see what a lovely dog she was.
Kisses needed a bath badly. When JoAnn and Alex touched her, their hands got almost
black because the Kisses was so dirty. But after her bath, the white spots in her fur were clean
again.

Kisses had a blast during her bath and gave Alex lots of kisses afterwards. Then, they
introduced her to some other dogs. She looked super happy and excited to meet new friends. And of course, Kisses made sure to give everyone plenty of kisses.
Forever Home…
Kisses was lucky. She just needed more love and care. So, Hope For Paws found her a
foster home where she could get all the affection she needed. That’s how she ended up at The Pits Dog Rescue in San Diego. But Kisses didn’t stay in the foster home for long. Her foster family decided to adopt her! Now, the dog who used to eat fast food scraps has a real family. She has two parents, two siblings, and three dog friends in her new family. It’s such a happy ending for sweet Kisses! She’s so grateful for all the love she’s received.
